ILanguage Intelligence for Social Good

SAIL Lab is an applied research and innovation laboratory dedicated to developing language intelligence for social good. We explore how Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing can be applied to real-world societal challenges—from online safety and health information to climate change, civic engagement, education, and language accessibility. Our work brings together research, technology, and social impact. We develop datasets, computational methods, AI models, and intelligent applications that can understand, analyze, and generate human language in meaningful ways. More importantly, we take these technologies beyond the research environment by developing prototypes, collaborating with real-world stakeholders, and exploring pathways toward deployment and measurable impact.

SAIL follows an end-to-end approach to applied AI:

We believe that advances in language technology should not be limited to benchmarks and publications. They should help people access information, make institutions more responsive, amplify underrepresented voices, improve public communication, and address challenges that affect communities and society. Our research therefore focuses particularly on low-resource and multilingual settings, with a strong interest in Indian languages and socially relevant applications of NLP.

We investigate new methods, datasets, models, and evaluation approaches in Natural Language Processing, Artificial Intelligence, and Language Intelligence.

We transform research into prototypes, platforms, tools, and applications that address real-world problems.

We work with communities, institutions, organizations, and other stakeholders to evaluate and deploy technologies where they can create meaningful social value.
